7 delicious places to wine and dine in Amsterdam
Before you exhaust yourself parading around the museum quarter, make sure you’re fueled for action with a sandwich or afternoon tea delight at De Bakkerswinkel (Roelof Hartstraat 68 1071) Phenomenal lunches in a quirky setting lay in store if you are willing to walk the distance south along the canal. The taxidermy shop next door but a few is worth a peruse if you’ve made it out here for a snack.

Has been serving chips from this hole in the wall for hundreds of years, and if you need a carborific snack to refuel you from all the pavement pounding, be sure to join the queue to try their wares for yourself. Portions are big, ‘original’ mayo sauce recommended.
Hoppe
Spui 18-20, 1012 XA Amsterdam
If you’ve been walking hard all day, but don’t fancy joining the tourists at the other sights in the Red Light District, stop to have a drink at one of Amsterdam’s famed Brown Cafes. AV’s favourite is Hoppe in Spui where the reputation precedes the place, the beer is good, prices and attitude don’t reflect the fame in any way, and the atmosphere is a touch Paris Left Bank.
Wynand Fockink
Pijlsteeg 31, 1012 HH Amsterdam
And pre or post-dinner, make it across to the centre of town for a aperitif (or nightcap) at Wynand Fockink (Pijlsteeg 31, 1012 HH Amsterdam) where the gin is home made, the spirit is unique and the staff are fun.
REM Eiland
Haparandadam 45, 1013 AK Amsterdam
Is a converted rig connected to the Western Docks by a narrow walkway and absolutely recommended for good food, in a quirky location with fabulous views. Best of all, it doesn’t break the bank. Thoroughly recommended.

Just opposite REM Eiland, situated on a converted ferry also comes recommended. Although AV didn’t have time to check it out for ourselves.
Restaurant De Kas

Another spot that’s on the wishlist for the next trip, but has come highly recommended in the meantime is Restaurant De Kas. Situated in the former Amsterdam City Greenery dating from1926). De Kas serves up extremely fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruits, set in acres of botanical gardens for a rural yet urban, dreamy setting.
